Code Wars 2008 Online Submission - Web Designing

A company called Anda Beta plans to launch a new chain of restaurants in India under the name...Anda Beta. For too many years, restaurateurs have been plagued by cases where they got sued by their customers for serving crappy food. Anda's revolutionary concept is that of Beta Food. Taking its inspiration from the world of technology, 'Beta Food' means that the restaurant is NOT liable is they serve bad / wrong food - just like beta software. Got stomach poisoning from eating beta food? Sorry, not responsible. Didn't get the dish you ordered for? Beta food. Food doesn't taste good? Sorry, it's beta food. Just one common refrain - beta food - to dismiss everything. The company plans to make pot-loads of money thanks to no liability. Of course, you can report any bugs in your (beta) food, but don't expect any compensation for it. The motto of the company is 'Too Many Cooks Spoil The Broth', which is why they ensure that only a handful of chefs work at their restaurants.

YOUR task is to create a website for the Anda Beta chain of restaurants. Unleash your creativity! This will be a website for the customers of Anda Beta, so please don't make a drab corporate website. You've full creative freedom over everything - right down from the Anda Beta logo, the layout of the website to what cuisine you want to depict Anda Beta specializes in. (Yes! Anda Beta has allowed its web designers to choose the cuisine too!) Just ONE directive from Anda Beta - make the site interactive and snazzy!

THE THEME GIVEN FOR THE CODE WARS 2008 WEB DESIGNING EVENT TOPIC IS BASED ON PURELY FICTIONAL ENTITIES. ANY RESEMBLANCE TO ORGANIZATIONS AND / OR PEOPLE LIVING AND / OR DEAD IS PURELY COINCIDENTAL, HIGHLY UNLIKELY, AND DEEPLY REGRETTED.

Additional Guidelines for the Web Designing event in Code Wars 2008

  • Read the Common Guidelines for Online Submission Events in Code Wars 2008 first.
  • Anda Beta doesn't have anything to do with eggs. Please don't make a friggin' website on egg-related dishes. As we mentioned, you can choose to go with ANY cuisine you want. We've given you full freedom, so show us some creativity.
  • You may use any offline / online resources for reference during the making of your entry.
  • You may use ANY software(s) you want to create your entry. You may also have as many participants sweating it away on the entry as you want.
  • The ZIP / RAR file that you submit for the event may contain the following: xHTML (not HTML) files, CSS files, associated images and media (including JavaScript files).
  • Your entry must be W3C xHTML compliant. NOT using CSS for managing the layout will result in points being docked during judging.
  • Use of JavaScript libraries - if used sensibly - will earn your team extra points during judging. You may use ANY JavaScript library: jQuery, script.aculo.us, YUI, Dojo, MooTools et al, to name a few. Alternatively, you may also write your own JavaScript functions.
  • You may use Flash, but that won't earn you as much extra points as using JavaScript will.
  • Use of server-side scripting languages like PHP is NOT allowed.
  • All files and pages must be linked relatively. Each and every component of your site MUST be included in the ZIP / RAR file. This means that you CANNOT link to images / videos / scripts / libraries etc online. Everything must be included in the package you upload.
  • Sites will be judged holistically. "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." Read that again slowly if you don't understand what we're saying. It means that judging won't be done on the basis of rigidly categorized items such as design, content, layout, et al. Judging will be done on how the site looks and feels as a whole.
  • The organizers reserve the right to use any and all means available to verify whether your entry is original. If it turns out that it is not, then the organizers reserve the right to reject your entry.
  • You need to appoint a participant as the lead designer of your entry (in case there's only one person, the choice gets narrowed down, doesn't it?). The contact details of the lead designer need to be submitted along with the entry. The judges of the event reserve the right to call up the lead designer for a viva round to clear any queries they have regarding the making of the project.
  • Decisions made by the organizers are final and binding.
